The most important part of having an outdoor entertainment space is being able to use it. This backyard has a little bit of everything when it comes to enjoying the outdoors.

Whether you’re looking nestle up next to a fire, enjoy a pizza fresh out of the oven, or just relax outside with friends while listening to the sound of water, we’ve got you covered. This project includes several features, including an outdoor grilling area, a pizza oven, a water feature, a fire pit area with seating, a pergola, outdoor lighting, and an outdoor sound system. Surrounding the entertainment area with plant material creates an intimate opportunity for the homeowners to enjoy their beautiful outdoor living space.

Party (Fore!) All

The focus of this project was to create multiple usable spaces. The kids and their friends can enjoy the pool while the adults practice their short game. The fire pit area is the perfect spot to enjoy a nice evening while unwinding from a fun-filled day. The large paver area is perfect for any size gathering of friends and/or family. This multifaceted backyard in Sioux Falls can most certainly handle a party (fore!) all.

A swimming pool, fire pit, golf green and entertaining space — what more do you need?

Riverside Retreat

Riverside Retreat

If you find yourself kayaking down the Big Sioux River, you might spot this hideaway.

Not every landscape we do is around a house. This secret retreat is nestled along the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls, and is more than meets the eye. The patio is constructed of 6”-10” thick pieces of stone in order to withstand floodwaters. The custom pergola has 12”x12” posts, which help the structure stand out among the large surrounding trees. Spending time around the natural stone fire pit makes this the perfect spot to retreat and enjoy nature.

Working with an existing landscape can be difficult, but we like the challenge! Creating updated entertaining areas while preserving as much vegetation as possible was key for this project.

The original landscape had an existing water feature that was a lot of maintenance and needed updating. Along with redesigning the water feature, we added new seating areas, a fire feature, a free-standing structure, and landscape lighting. Plant material and gardening were very important aspects of this project, so preserving the existing plant material was a top priority. If you find yourself in this Sioux Falls backyard, trust us — you’ll want to stay awhile.

Tucked into a beautiful wooded neighborhood inside city limits, we had a lot of fun working around the mature trees on this site.

We added this private living space amongst some beautiful mature trees that provide great shade in this backyard. Stone planks were used for the fire pit patio and concrete pavers for the main living space. The covered outdoor bar provides additional seating sheltered from the elements. All the living space is lit with low voltage lighting.

A great setting with great views.

Working with a unique setting like this one is an opportunity we will never pass up. The terraced fire pit area is a perfect place to spend an evening. Using a combination of concrete blocks for the seat benches and pillars, pavers for the patio space, and natural limestone slabs for the retaining walls, our Sioux Falls landscaping team created this beautiful outdoor living space for this avid outdoorsman homeowner.

The long paver entrance walkway leads to a covered pavilion designed to facilitate large outdoor weddings.

The entrance walkway to Wings of Valor Lodge near Sioux Falls, SD is bordered by free-standing seating walls with columns and low voltage lights. Lush abundant plantings border the event space, offering a “native prairie” look with splashes of color. The supporting posts for the pavilion are wrapped with columns and raised planters to bulk up the lower portion of the otherwise top-heavy structure. Paver walkways connect the event venue with the rest of the lodging quarters on the property. Low voltage LED lights keep guests safe while they navigate the expansive property through the evening and into the night.

Towering, beautiful oak trees provide a canopy of shade for this campground-esque backyard.

A rustic fireplace and flagstone patio offer a secluded place to enjoy an evening by the fire. Sound from the small pond-less water feature makes you forget you are in the city. A huge variety of shade-tolerant perennial flowers and shrubs were used to soften the hardscaping at this beautiful property in Sioux Falls. We had a ton of fun designing this space to accommodate this client’s natural / rustic style.
